Your browser or computer may show a security warning when you open the installer. The steps for Windows and Mac are below — open the one that matches the computer you are installing on.

🍎

Getting an "unidentified developer" warning?

macOS shows a Gatekeeper prompt for apps not yet Developer ID certified.

▼

GoldenProtect is safe and ad-hoc signed — Developer ID certification is pending. Use the steps below to open it.

Open it directly (no Terminal needed)

  1. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag GoldenProtect into Applications.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) GoldenProtect in Applications and choose Open.
  3. Click Open in the Gatekeeper dialog. The app launches and macOS remembers your choice.

Alternatively: System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll down → Open Anyway.

If the app still won't open, run this in Terminal:

xattr -cr /Applications/GoldenProtect.app

Press Return, then open GoldenProtect from Applications.

Getting a "Windows protected your PC" warning?

SmartScreen shows this for apps without an Authenticode certificate.

▼

GoldenProtect is safe to install. This dialog appears because the installer is not yet signed with an Authenticode certificate — we are working on obtaining one. Use the steps below to proceed.

Run the installer anyway

  1. When the SmartScreen dialog appears, click More info (below the warning text).
  2. Click Run anyway. The installer launches and Windows remembers your choice.

This warning will stop appearing for your machine once you have installed it once.

Why does this happen? Microsoft SmartScreen flags installers from publishers without a code signing certificate until enough users have downloaded and run the file. Adding an EV certificate (which we plan to do) removes the warning entirely, even on first install.
